Short Session Description (one line): Instructional Strategies for Teaching Students to Solve Real-World Problems

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The instructional framework of strategies from McREL’s latest research (Dean et al, 2012) provides teachers with specific strategies to use in order to help students utilize what they have learned in real-world contexts. In this session, we will focus on how the strategies that help students develop understanding lead to processes that help students connect what they have learned to authentic tasks. Specific strategies from Identifying Similarities & Differences and Generating & Testing Hypotheses will be described, including examples from K-12 classrooms.
