 Globalization, the dominant political, economic, social, and cultural phenomenon of our time impacting our lives, isn't widely studied by high school students, is explored in this session.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

This presentation outlines best practices, professional development, and module and a course outline educators can use for their own purposes in programs of study in globalization.
Utopian and nationalistic notions of globalization, combined with limited teacher professional development around this topic, yields limited and inadequate engagement by students with globalization during  their formal education.  In turn, this session, provides a flexible, inter-disciplinary, differentiated, and relevant globalization curriculum which can be utilized across content areas and in any secondary system. 

Objective 1: Explain and support the claim that globalization should be taught as a specific course of study in secondary education. This focuses on conceptualization of globalization as a system, force, and project.

Objective 2: Outline main globalization theories in contemporary thought.
 
Objective 3: Provide half year and full year course scope and sequences in globalization, using a modules of study, which include essential questions, differentiated learning activities, transfer skills, and authentic assessment.
 
Objective 4: Provide a list of professional development opportunities, suggested reading, and websites devoted to globalization education.

Content/Skills: By attending this session, participants will have the opportunity to take away a range of applications, information, and strategies which will enhance their understanding of globalization.
 
Globalization Theory: Participants are exposed to main theories of globalization, including the concept of "global citizenship" which provide a foundation for their engagement and instruction/facilitation in their class. Both historical and contemporary views are provided including notions of a "global village", Americanization as globalization, disjuncture, systems theory, and hegemony theory.

Instructional Strategies: A module approach allows for integration of globalization learning experiences across content areas. This approach focuses on relevant, collaborative, and differentiated instruction. The use of open educational resources, web 2.0 tools, student generated knowledge, and content related literacies connect to 21st century education initiatives and the Common Core Schools Standards.

Course Creation: This presentation provides participants with full and half year courses of study using backwards design. Participants are able to adapt the unit and lesson objectives according to their needs
presentation strategies.
