Hi all,
My name is Erika Stokes and I am completing my Master's in Elementary Education at the University of Florida. I am enrolled in a MOOC (massively open online course, which means you don't have to pay to learn the content and share your knowledge- check it out! http://community.education.ufl.edu/community/pg/pages/view/77059/ ) which explores the use of Personal Learning Environments (PLE). When I began this course, it was the first time I had ever heard of a PLE, but I came to find that they are a great way for students to direct their own learning, as well as providing an opportunity for students to gain digital literacy and effectively use technology as a learning tool. Basically, a PLE is a way to organize one's information about a topic; here is an example of a Personal Learning Environment created by a 7th grade student: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEls3tq5wIY
As part of this course, we were to select a topic of inquiry, about which we could create a PLE. I chose to have my project rotate around creating awareness of global issues. Like the student in the above video, I am also using symbaloo to organize everything I find. Here is what I have so far http://www.symbaloo.com/shared/AAAAAwH3eJ4AA41_V5nE1w==
As you can see, this page is still a work in progress. Does anyone know of other educational resources on teaching or learning global issues that I missed? How about any good blogs?
Also, I would love to hear others' stories of how they incorporated global education into their classroom. I'm also posting my progress on my blog http://estoked.blogspot.com/ . I would love to hear any feedback or comments as I work on this gigantic, wonderful project!

Erika,
Here's more than you asked for!
The first attachment is the curriculum map for our tenth grade English class titled "Global Perspectives on Ethics and Power" so you can see a global-themed class.
The second attachment is a work-in-progress document of Web sites the my classmates and I generated during the Teaching World Cultures and Global Issues class taught by Merry Merryfield of Ohio State (she's a member of this network ... best teacher ever!).
And lastly here's my own delicious.com list of global sites, which I started just yesterday after reading through many of the discussion threads on this site. Some of them came from you! There are at least two other delicious.com lists in these threads ... hopefully others will respond and contribute to your list.
Best of luck,
George
