Our program is interactive, fun and provokes participation from the entire class, their families and their communities.

The founders of One More Generation are two enterprising elementary students (Carter, age 11.5 and his sister Olivia, age 10) who care about our environment and about saving endangered species.  Their goal with this program is to educate and excite students to get involved with being part of the solution to our ever-growing plastic pollution problem.

Purpose: The purpose is to provide factual information about the types of plastic pollution and to suggest simple changes each one of us can incorporate into our daily lives, which will have an immediate impact on our environment.

Program Objectives:

  • To provide environmental education which is interdisciplinary; reading, writing, science and social studies
  • To present information in a balanced and unbiased manner
  • To provide data that is relevant to the students which has a direct impact on their lives
  • To relate learning about environmental topics to real-world issues
  • To make use of the outdoors as a learning environment
  • To inspire critical thinking and decision making
  • To motivate students and their parents to take responsible action
  • To aid the school in developing students to become lifelong learners

Outcomes:

  • Raising awareness and sensitivity to the environment and environmental challenges
  • Changing attitudes towards the environment and motivating students to seek improvement opportunities that will affect environmental quality
  • Fostering the skill-set which will help students identify and resolve environmental challenges
  • Encouraging participation in activities that lead to the resolution of local and global environmental challenges

With two-thirds of our household trash being comprised of plastic, most of which is never properly recycled, it is imperative that we educate our next generation of the importance of learning and understanding that we are all responsible for what we are doing to our environment.  Our program will help participants understand all seven types of plastics and know which are less likely to be accepted by most recycling programs so they can help keep non-recyclable items out of their homes and out of our landfills.

We hope you like our proposal and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards from the entire OMG Team ;-)

  • iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit 2012 Session Acceptance

Thank you so much for your session proposal for the 2012 iEARN InternationalConference and Youth Summit!  We're please to let you know that your submission has been accepted! Your proposal is now in the "iEARN accepted proposals" list on the website. Here are some important tasks for you.

    1.  Because we have sessions being presented from all different time zones, as a speaker you actually schedule your own session time at http:// http://iearn.youcanbook.me. This allows you to see the available slots and to pick something that works within your time zone, work schedule, or other constraints. We're quite proud of how this works, as it is one of the benefits of a virtual conference, but if you should fun into any difficulties finding a time that works for you, email me directly (dmidness@us.iearn.org).

We encourage you to do this quickly, as proposals are being reviewed in the order in which they were submitted, so your priority for selecting a session time depends on you scheduling right away. When you do select you time, be sure that the scheduling system has the correct time zone for you!
To schedule your session, you should open http://www.globaleducationconference.com to your presentation proposal (you can do a search on your name to find it, or click on "My Page" in the top menu and then click on the "discussion" link on the left side to find it). Open the session booking link from above in another tab. You will find it easiest to copy the information from one to the other rather than re-type it.  Once completed, you will receive an email confirmation of your booking.

    2. As a presenter, you need to make sure you are a member of the iEARN conference "presenters group" on the network website. Most of our announcements to speakers will be sent to the members of this group, so as not to email all site members. Join the group (or check to make sure you're already a member) at http://www.globaleducationconference.com/group/iearn-2012-conferenc....

    3. Presenters are responsible for knowing how to use Blackboard Collaborate (formerly Elluminate).  We will have a cadre of volunteers on hand during the conference to help with any issues, but you need to go through the moderator training for Collaborate if you are not a seasoned user. There will be a variety of training resources at the GEC Collaborate website, and we email the speakers group in some weeks alerting you to actual live training sessions.

Again, we are so delighted to have you participating in the 2012 iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit.  Thank you!

    Best,
    iEARN Conference Planning Committee

    • Diane,

Thank you so much for pointing this out.  I just changed the tags as directed.  Please let me know if it looks correct and what we need to do next.

      Thanks a million ;-)

  • Hi Olivia and Carter,

This sounds like it will be a fabulous presentation.  Did you intend your audience to be students or teachers.  If you want it to be youth, then the Youth Summit would be the place to do it.  I think it would be appropriate in either one.

I apologize for taking so long to ask you this.

    Warmly,

    Diane Midness

    • Thanks so much Diane for the reply.  Our program applies to both students and teachers.  We could put together a presentation to either or both.  How much time would we have.  What should our next step be?

We look forward to being part of the event.
Best regards from the entire OMG Team ;-)

      • Thanks for the quick reply!  I am going to start sending out acceptances tomorrow (hopefully!) That will tell you how to schedule your time.  Keep tuned to the iEARN presenters list for more instructions and training session information for Blackboard Collaborate.  Each session is 60 minutes.  There is a short introduction by the moderator and then time to have the attendees place themselves on a map.  You will want to leave time for questions.  I would say to plan to present no longer than 40-45 minutes.  I  look forward to this presentation, You will want to attend a presentation in the Youth Summit that students in Philadelphia are doing after they got concerned about plastic pollution.

        Warmly,

        Diane

        • Thanks Diane, we will look for further details from you.  We will work on the presentation and have it ready ;-)
