Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
21st century is characterized with the emergence of knowledge based society wherein ICT plays a pivotal role. The National curriculum framework 2005 (NCF 2005) has also highlighted the importance of ICT in school education. With this backdrop, major paradigm shift is imperative in education characterised by imparting instructions, collaborative learning, multidisciplinary problem-solving and promoting critical thinking skills.
The Government of India has announced 2010-2020 as the decade of innovation. Reasoning and Critical thinking skills are necessary for innovation. Foundation of these skills is laid at school level.
At St.Mark’s School, ever since 2005,we have been incorporating ICT tools in teaching our students. For the past three years,we have been doing a lot of iEARN projects.
iEARN projects have been very helpful in making the classroom very interesting and a fun place to be in.The classroom is no more the dull and boring place for the students. Moreover, the students are very keen on using all the gadgets in making their learning experience better.
iEARN project-One day in my life was a project which my students enjoyed doing….capturing the moments on their camera, recording their day for everyone to see….they were so happy to be part of the project.
Learning Circles has always been one of the favourites of my students. They loved sharing their school life, their city, their country with so many from all over the world.
My Stamp is another favourite for my students.I remember how the teacher taught her lessons on different kinds of stamps through the project.Even the art teacher took the clue…He started a competition on Design a stamp…It was a very successful competition.
My City and me-students as young as nine and ten years of age did this project and the feedback that they got was overwhelming.
Food For Thought-Amazing project. My students became friends with students from Tajikistan and Taiwan.Infact,a student from Tajikistan made Gaajar ka halwa while the student from Taiwan wants to know more about the dish….We now plan to come out with a recipe book ourselves…
WYN-MDG Reporting Labs-This was,by far,the best of all.Targetted at seniormost students, this project, gave the students an opportunity to learn about the UN and the MDGs much better.Researching on MDGs,the organizations that work in implementing the MDGs,visiting the CARE India office to interview the officials was an incredible journey for my students.
Videos were made, pics were clicked, interviews were recorded and the ambience of a newsroom was created by the students, making the entire task to be a very thrilling experience…
