Short Session Description (one line): This session will teach novice to advanced educators the simple, 5-step project- design process for creating rigorous, engaging and real- world PBL experiences for students.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Project- based learning, when done correctly has a profound impact on the learning of our students. It connects them to their passions, the real world, global community and work that matters while also allowing for the rigorous acquisition of content standards. The problem is that too often project based experiences fall short of their desired impact. It's not the fault of the practice itself, but a lack of understanding in project design. Join expert practitioner Kyle Wagner, a former Project Based Leader at High Tech High and coordinator of Futures Academy, as he simplifies the project design process into 5 steps. These are the same 5 steps he has used to get students to create small businesses, connect with local schools, publish their own books, and engineer design solutions for environmental problems. You will learn:
* How to come up with the topic for your project- based experience
* How to involve global collaborators
* How to envision the final product
* How to craft your driving question
* How to incorporate rigorous standards
* How to engage students in their own learning

Kyle -
I am accepting this proposal, but I would recommend adding more globally connected teaching and learning if I were you.... if you make any edits, let me know so I can move this proposal into the accepted category.
Thanks,
Lucy
HI Lucy,
I went ahead and added the word "global" in the longer description as well as in the title of the presentation. The presentation will take audience members through the lens of an actual project led by the International School of Beijing in coordination with the local community to improve a waterway. I will also discuss how to find global collaborators for audience members' own project ideas.
Hope these are enough edits. Let me know if you need me to make more changes.
Best,
Kyle
