Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):
Know My World views education as a process that encompasses the human experience, not only for knowledge, but for awareness and the transformation that occurs from that awareness. We believe in the power of our stories and the lessons they create for us. We envision a learning environment where people share and build on their own power to cultivate a better tomorrow with and for each other.
This presentation will explain and guide educators through the process of The Sharability Project. This project was initially developed for and implemented in a graduate level course in America then modified and successfully implemented in a second grade classroom in Taiwan and with adults in Thailand. It is a powerful and versatile project that can be taught across all grade levels. We will begin with the concept of awareness and what it means. Then, we will go through the process of the Sharability Project and how to implement it in your classroom. Examples of finished stories will be shared and a detailed lesson plan will be provided.
Participants in the Sharability Project answer a story prompt dealing with a personal experience and share their responses with the group. As stories are shared common themes and words will appear, clearly showing distinctions in commonalities and helping us form connections with our fellow participants. These common themes and words are then combined to re-create a fictitious story together via creative writing, visual documentation and discussion. The Sharability Project encourages people to share who they are and understand others through a collaborative project. However, more importantly, it shows participants the power of perspective and the stories they create. It also empowers them to realize that ultimately we all share the same story and we have the ability to recreate our story at any time. Final story projects can be digitally recorded and shared with your classroom, school or with the rest of the world on our website as a means to connect on a global level with other participants.
