Water Use Around the World

Hi,
My name is Lynda Moore, a fifth/sixth grade teacher in Portland, OR.  My fifth/sixth grade
class will be working on a unit entitled Earth's Waters beginning in November and ending
about mid-December.  I am interested in having my students conduct some research via Skype, email, or blog about water use and water issues in other communities.

If you are interested in collaborating on this project, I can be contacted at

Lynda.Moore@nlcinc.com.

Thanks!  Looking forward to working with you!

  • Dear Lynda,
I would love to join this project. I am a curriculum leader from Hong Kong.
May I know more about that?
    Thanks a lot.
    Cheers,
    Sally
    • Hi Sally,

Our water study will get underway in early November and run for about a month. I would like my students to correspond via email or wiki with other kids from around the world to find out how water is used and accessed in their daily lives and what water issues they face in their communities. We are also creating some Glogs (multi-media posters) to introduce ourselves to friends and students from around the world. If you are interested in joining this project, my email address is Lynda.Moore@nlcinc.com. which will be an easier way for us to correspond. My school website is at www.touchstoneelementary.com. You can find my webpage under the Parent section and then under the Faculty Directory.
      • Hi Lynda,
I find your project very meaningful and interesting for my students.
My school is Pui Kiu College (http://www.puikiucollege.edu.hk).

Will your Water Project be finished in December? I am finding if I can find time to let my students join in.

Looking forward to hearing from you again. :)

        Thanks a lot.
        Cheers,
        Sally
        • Hi Linda

Our School is a community secondary school in the coast village in Tanzanai. the School does not have sanitary water. The school has only four toilet holes, that is one hole for 120 students. I beleive your project should have alot of inputs from the community schools in the developing countries.

          Regards
          Saif.
  • Here's a collaborative project built around Water, free to join from ePals and National Geographic:

Here are teachers who want to find others to participate with them or share ideas about the Water project:

Here are comments and questions from students who are participating in the Water project:

Your students can read all these without joining ePals. If you want them to post questions or answer questions on ePals, you have to join (free account) at: www.epals.com and click on "Join" on upper right. Then you can request accounts for the students (also free) so that they can post on the Student Forum. Note that all postings by both students and teachers are moderated by ePals, so there is no namecalling or inappropriate language, and students don't disclose personal information.
    • Thank you Dr. Oates. I look forward to checking out these resources.

  • Lynda,

In my school I work with a small group of 5th graders and we will be participating in the One Day in the World video project on 10/10/10. We plan to learn about watersheds and how run off is handled. This is an issue in our area since there is a lot of new construction. We are in Austin, TX and if what we are doing sounds of interest we would love to Skype with you! We meet on Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30 am. We are in Central Time.

  • Hi Lynda,

I am a fifth grade integrated ESL teacher from Cumberland, Rhode Island, with a class of 20 students. We start school on Sept. 1st. We haven't used Skype, but I am planning on trying it this year. I would love to establish a connection with your class if you would like.

    Thanks,

    Jamie
  • We tried to email you, but it said your addresss wasn't working.

    Dear Ms Moore,

Hello, we are 6LB. We are a class of grade 6 students in Australia. We read about your project on the GEC Ning. We will help you with your research about water issues in other communities. We are also learning about the world and other countries and thought you might like to talk to us about the drought we are currently in. We've been in drought for years and it has a big impact on our lives.

We can't Skype because of the time difference. Maybe email will work.

    Hope we can help.

    From 6LB
    • Dear 6LB,

Thank you for replying to our project. We would love to work with you. Email will work fine. My students start school on September 7, so we will be in touch with you shortly after that to get things going. My school is Touchstone School in Lake Oswego, Oregon (a suburb of Portland, Oregon.)

I'm not sure why you couldn't get through to my email. It may be that our server was down. You can try again at Lynda.Moore@nlcinc.com or try mrs.moore@comcast.net.

      Thank you!
      Lynda Moore
