It really started as an academic discussion in my class in Iqra University last year. We were talking about underdevelopement and poverty in Pakistan.
I challenged my students to do something nearby in an actual village.
I promised them that I will arrange a field trip. The trip took place earlier this month. I was actually surprised at the response. It was a pleasent surprise. The students are enthusiastic. We realized that things were really bad there. We found out that clean water was also a problem. I believe studenst got a real education. That was the point of the visit. Students seem to be bothered about the filth and garbage all over the place which produced a stench.
Since someone promised us clean potable water therefore we are raising money for the water tanks.I have collected nearly Rs 5,000 already through small donations made my students and faculty.
Not bad at all!
We are also organizing a medical camp on May 8. Six doctors have volunteered their services. We will distribute free medicines also in the camp.
More students will join us hopefully. Later, we will establish a Weaving and Stitching Center for village girls. That obviously requires more money. I estimate Rs100, 000. Our dreams also include an adult literacy center and a primary school, meant primarily for girls. There is no school for them in Sohan village. i hope we will establish one some day. I need your support on this project.
