I'm an instructional designer which means I design online and hybrid instructional lessons. My experience is in education, and I have had an opportunity to work with Cypress College journalism department's international pilot project that brought Cypress and Lutsk University's journalism students together for some journalism instruction and training. I've also been in the classrooms teaching college and university students since 2005 which has afforded me exposure to students in f2f and brick and mortar environments as an instructor/mentor. Having completed my MS in Instructional Design and Technology just May this year, I'm now starting to work independently and am designing an Integrated Global Hyper-media Journ Project to launch in Vietnam (or China) Fall 2011. My hope is to design hybrid instructional lessons that provide English as a second language instruction for high school to college and/or university students for educational institutions internationally.
I'm currently trying to complete an application for a Gates Foundation grant to fund the project. The deadline is 11/19. It's the first grant I've applied for but I've discovered there are many grants available for independent design projects. I'm not currently employed by any school at this time, so I also need a college and/or university to launch from in the US to participate in a partnership with Vietnamese or Chinese students in the project.
I would love to connect with anyone working on any similar type of project and also anyone who would love to gain such experience in the future.
I'm looking forward to providing insight and assistance to anyone who may need it as well.
Thank you!

I need your help.
I'm looking for other global educators interested in building a long-term relationship. The goal will be to work out all the kinks running projects together in different time zones and with different types of students.
I am in the early stage process of conceptualizing and building student design challenges related to appropriate-scale bioreactors for:
1. Algal biodiesel production
2. Bioethanol fermentation (starting with starchy root feedstocks)
3. Waste bioremediation
4. Closed-loop ecosystems for manned space exploration
I can't do this alone. I have a vision that much of this work will be done with student collaborators. Teachers will simply set up the design challenges, provide design criteria, tools for collaboration and provide some pointers towards sources of information.
I was hoping to find a way to offer these ideas to your global challenge community.

Glad to you meet you at NECC! You left the restaurant before I could really tap your brain! Next year, we'll have to chat more extensively!
