  • Hi, I taught language arts and yearbook at JC Harmon HS early in my career and loved it!

Here are some ideas I hope will help you:

    1. Vocabulary Building Through Visualization of Word Meanings To Create Digital Art

    http://www.epals.com/blogs/teacherspotlight/archive/2010/05/26/voca...

    2. You can post specific requests in the ePals Teacher Forums. Here's part of an example from a teacher in Poland:

I am looking for European schools for Comenius project about traditional folk theatre or festival performances.

My school is in Warsaw in Poland and we have students 5-13 years old.

    3. Join the English Companion Ning. http://englishcompanion.ning.com/

Start with the groups on Teaching Shakespeare and World Literature. They have 222 groups now, and it's the most thoughtful and interesting community to read and participate in! (longest posts too!)

The Teaching Vocabulary group might be helpful also.

    4. Get pen pals for your students from a country with Latin-based language, such as Italy. As ELL students from that country write to your students, they will use words in English that are easy for them, but will expand your students' vocabulary. The Italian student who writes, "What kind of edifice is your school in?" uses a word close to Italian's "edificio" but for your student, that's a new word. You can get pen pals free through ePals and also free student SchoolMail accounts. (Blessed by USD500 for years.) Go to http://www.epals.com and click "Join Now!" to create your profile. You can upload student accounts or work with USD500 tech folks.
