Please join GEC members tonight for an online discussion on global awareness. It will take place at 7 PM Central time on Thursday, September 10. To see what time it will be in your time zone, please visit http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html.

This is the direct link to Learn Central where this Future of Education event will take place:http://www.learncentral.org/event/22991/Global+Awareness+Panel .

You may want to try out Elluminate ahead of time to make sure it works on your computer. If you have difficulties with Elluminate, I suggested contacting their live online support: http://www.elluminate.com/support/.

I use a Mac and here's the conversation I had with Tech Support to get things to work:

What we will need to do is select to manually open the .jnlp file with Java Web Start. Do you still have the .jnlp file (meeting.jnlp, play.jnlp, etc) in your list of Downloads?

Ctrl + Click on the file. Do you have the option to Show in Finder?

Once the file is shown in your Finder, Ctrl + Click it again and choose Open With and Other.

In the Choose Application window, go to \System\Library\CoreServices and select Java Web Start. Once you have done this, the room may begin to open automatically. It may open fine, but there may be an error. If there is, just access the link again and you should get in without trouble. As long as you select ALWAYS OPEN WITH at the bottom, then you will not have to do this again.

The path to find Java WebStart is this in case you can't find it: Harddrive/System/Library/CoreServices/JavaWebStart
  • I look forward to it. You have some heavy hitters there so it is a great opportunity. Thanks for organizing.
  • Lucy,
Looking forward to this. Great panel you've assembled.

Dorothy, I'm not sure what you're referring to. The personal clock that I posted in the forum is just to give people an idea of time differences. I am referring to Central Standard Time in the US which I think is GMT-6.

Here are some time zone tips that others may find useful:

If you are a Mac user, I also recommend putting several clocks on your dashboard and setting them to times in different countries. For instance, make one show your local time and another Chicago time. You could also probably do something similar with widgets and your iGoogle start page if you use that service.

Another resource is this map: http://www.worldtimezone.com/.

And finally, you can covert times in your Google search box. Omitting the brackets, type in [time Chicago IL] and you should get a search result that tells you the current time.
  • Could you please explain the time to me as a non-American :) In World date/time converter CST has Australian and US variations. I presume you mean US. Then I have to choose the option of Chiacgo Winter (is it Winter on Sept 10?) or Regina (all year)

Yes, it will be archived, and I'll post a link when it's completed.
  • I hope you are going to achive this session
  • I am very interested for myself and our department chairs. Any chance this elluminate session will be archived for future viewing as well?
