Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Ironically, intercultural gaps between people in different countries are often easier to navigate than the intercultural gaps between people in our own neighborhoods, communities and schools. Global education provides a safe way for students to practice and deepen their dialogue about identity, ethnicity and experience, and this has huge benefits for any campus struggling with internal diversity challenges or a lack of constructive intercultural dialogue.
Particularly in the context of international schools such as Appleby College (Ontario), global experiences are part of long-range strategies meant to improve the intercultural experiences students have on campus. This session will explore strategies that allow schools to leverage the intercultural skills students learn in global programming, and will include several hands-on activities designed to help teachers and schools to develop their own intercultural skill-building programs.
