Short bio or reason for joining Actionable Innovations Global:

I teach French and Spanish at the high school level, and am also a 1:1 laptop pilot classroom. I would like to have my students participate in international projects with students whose first language is either French or Spanish. I am open to many different kinds of collaboration, both synchronous and asynchronous!

  • Hi. I still need your e-mail Kim!
  • Hi again Kim, OK, this is getting interesting. I teach 16 - 17 students the IGCSE History program. Right now the topic we're investigating is Stalinist Russia and soon we will be starting to analyze the Spanish Civil War. The English-Spanish link is easy enough to set up but I think we also need some meaningful content to make it all come alive. So, we can do this through my course, but maybe Spanish classes, Geography, Business Studies, also?? Please take a look at our webpage and see the diversity of course that we currently offer. On the projects side of things, I am sending you a description of our May service project in a beautiful little island in Lake Titicaca. Let me know what you think about starting a collaboration along the lines of global community service with all kinds of academic and non-academic other links inserted. You have to consider coming here with your students!
  • Hi Kim, Yes, I am also interested in this match. How old are your students? I teach 11 - 16 year olds, but we focus on Peruvian prehistory with the 11 - 13 age range. I do classroom teaching, experimental archaeology, field trips and combine outdoor education with prehistory activities. Our students are also pretty close to being bilingual as Markham (where I teach) is a British style school.

I also do lots of community service projects all over the country with student volunteers. Some of the projects are for Markham students, others are from schools all over the world.

So, let me know what you had in mind, OK?
  • Hola Kim.
We will be happy to explore collaboration with you and your students. Your request is right on target! We just completed a three-day Ocean Camp program with 45 honor students from a private high school in Hermosillo, Sonora. We need ten or more native-English-speaking students to pair with our native-Spanish-speaking students, in grades 9-12. Looks as if we have a good match for cooperation.
Tomorrow I am flying out of Mexico to the Kennedy Space Center with staff to participate in an educational program about the launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-131). You are probably aware that there is a teacher on board(!) for the Monday launch to the International Space Station. So I will be out of contact until about this time next week. Let's talk then!
    Regards,
    Mark Morelli
