  • Description: The contentious and often dramatic debate over immigration reform that has played out in America's streets and the halls of Congress has largely failed to address the root causes of migration. Global Exchange has a special perspective to offer travelers who want to understand Mexican migration from the inside.

On a Global Exchange Reality Tour to the US-Mexico border, participants explore the root causes of immigration and meet with a diversity of groups and individuals to hear what's happening on the immigration front line. Since 1994, more than 3,600 people have died crossing the border into the US. US immigration and border security policies like "Operation Gatekeeper" have increased human rights abuses and the number of border deaths, as migration routes are pushed farther east to remote stretches of Arizona's deserts.

The global economy also plays a significant role in this region and impacts immigration patterns. More than one million farmers lost their livelihoods when the Mexican

  • Jul 1, 2011 to Jul 11, 2011
  • Location: Palestine
  • Description:

At Global Exchange, we believe the root of violence in the region is caused by the Occupation and the complete disregard of international law and UN resolutions. We believe if U.S. citizens truly understood the reality of what is happening in the region, and were exposed to the amount of dialogue that even the Israeli public is exposed to, we would be able to begin to pressure our government to change its one-sided policies toward Israel.

Our fact-finding delegations to Palestine & Israel strive to further the U.S. public's understanding of the conflict and the region's realities by giving people first-hand exposure to the human rights abuses occurring in the Occupied Territories. Participants have the opportunity to hear a diverse spectrum of Palestinian and Israeli voices and learn about their understanding of the conflict and hopes for a solution.

We ask participants to ask tough questions: Should the U.S. government be giving $3 billion in annual aid to Israel, which already has the
